Colombian fruits as protagonists in the European Union

Colombia over the years has been characterized as a country where the primary sector of the economy has gained great strength in the world, characterized by being an exporter of foods such as coffee and rice; of minerals such as coal, gold and silver or precious stones such as emeralds, in addition to exporting fresh fruits to different parts of the world such as Europe. This is due to the variety of thermal floors and fertile lands that the Colombian territory has to cultivate and harvest a great diversity of fruits; activity that is not possible in the European Union (EU) due to the climate they have.

The member countries of the EU have bet on the importation of Colombian fruits. A 2018 article in the newspaper Portafolio entitled “Colombia diversify its agricultural exports to the European Union”, points out that the main fruits that were exported were: bananas, cape gooseberry, passion fruit and gulupa, all tropical and unconventional fruits. which makes them a more attractive offer.

According to figures from DANE and DIAN, the departments that most exported fruits in 2018 were Antioquia with 976,148,213.55 dollars, followed by Magdalena with 382,781,296.92 dollars and Cundinamarca with 9,433,147.72 dollars and, in fourth place, the department of Valle with $ 6,623,539.76.
